Take 3 cups of coffee per day can extend your life, according to studies

Drinking coffee gives us more energy to face the day. Not in vain has it become one of the most popular infusions in the world. But now, new international studies point to another important benefit: increase life expectancy.

Drink more coffee, live longer
One of the studies was conducted by Imperial College London , in partnership with the International Agency for Research on Cancer . The study analyzed data on coffee consumption habits of more than half a million people in 10 European countries.

The results suggest that men who drink at least 3 cups of coffee a day are 18% less likely to die from any cause than men who do not consume them. The women had an 8% reduction in mortality during the same period.

Benefits of coffee
According to experts, the antioxidants in coffee would be responsible for this effect, not caffeine. In the study, even those who consumed decaffeinated coffee entered the list of beneficiaries.

Antioxidants have been studied by science for a long time. In short, they are substances that help fight free radicals in the body and thus prevent cellular aging.

Effect in different ethnic groups
On the other hand, a study from the University of Southern California , in the United States , found new scientific evidence. The idea of the study was to find out if the effects of coffee changed according to ethnicity. For that, they investigated more than 185,000 people. They took into account factors such as lifestyle, smoking, diet and family history, among others.

Those who drank a cup of coffee every day were 12% less likely to die of any cause than those who did not drink coffee, regardless of ethnicity.Meanwhile, those who drank between 2 and 3 cups of coffee reduced their risk of dying by 18%.

"In addition, coffee has so many antioxidants and phenolic compounds that it plays an important role in the prevention of cancer," VerónicaSetiawan told British newspaper The Independent . Setiawan was the leader of the study.

"We can not say that drinking coffee will prolong your life. However, it is possible to notice an association. If you like to drink coffee, continue. If you do not like it, maybe you should consider it, "said the leader.

The two studies are in the Annals of Internal Medicine . For the moment, specialists do not recommend drinking more coffee yet, we know that not all statistical correlation is causality and that more studies are still needed. However, drinking coffee moderately could give you many benefits.
