5 signals to detect dangerous moles

If you notice a mole, sore, bump, mark, imperfection or unusual change in an area of the skin it could be a sign or warning of a type of skin cancer. Therefore, you must be careful to detect if a dangerous mole has appeared.

How are the normal moles?

They present a stain of uniform color, which has brown, cinnamon or black tones. Their forms are flat or prominent, round or oval. In general, the size is less than 6 millimeters.

Some people are born with their moles, while others develop them in childhood or youth. In most cases, the mole maintains the same size, color and shape for several years.

While they are generally harmless, it is important that you recognize when a mole changes, as it could be an indication that a melanoma is developing.

What are the signs of a dangerous mole?

- A new mole
Although moles can be present from birth, most appear in childhood. Even moles can continue to form until around 40 years of age. A new mole can turn into melanoma, although it is rare.

- Changes in the mole
Maybe you have a mole that has suddenly changed in size, shape or color.A good way to identify the usual signs of melanoma is to use the ABCDE rule. A of asymmetry, which refers to the fact that half of the mole does not correspond to the other part. B of edges, when these are irregular, unequal or ill-defined. C color, which occurs when it has brown or black shades and even pink, red, blue or white spots and the color is not uniform.

We also have the D diameter, which emphasizes that if the mole is more than 6 mm wide, it could be melanoma, and the E of evolution, which means that the size, shape or color of the mole is changing.

- The feeling of the mole
If you suddenly feel itching, tenderness or pain in the mole that you had years ago, it is a warning sign that could indicate the existence of a type of skin cancer.

- Changes in the surface of a mole
It is important to note if in the moles there is desquamation, exudation, bleeding, or the appearance of a lump or nodule.

- Other signs
They also deserve attention if you develop a sore that does not heal, reddening beyond the edge or spreading the pigment from the edge of a stain even to the surrounding skin.
