What foods produce flatulence and should we avoid them?

Eating too much, not resting after the main snacks and consuming many foods that contain carbohydrates are some of the causes of flatulence.

A flatulence is the accumulation of gases within your body. It is natural and normal to have several a day, but it could also mean a signal with which your body wants to tell you that something is wrong. For example, when you are constipated, with irritable bowel or there is bacterial growth in the stomach, more than 20 flatulences are produced per day. But there is one of the most common causes why this happens: intolerance to certain foods.

The foods that you should avoid to eat in excess to avoid flatulence are those that contain carbohydrates (for the body it is difficult to absorb them), such as fructose, sorbitol, lactose, raffinose, stachyose, etc. And what foods contain all this? Chickpeas, beans, lentils, lettuce, cucumber, cauliflower, figs, apples, bananas, soda, among others.

You can include all these foods in your diet, but do not abuse them and even more if you detect that you have flatulence with high frequency. However, to all this, other factors are added:

- Eat too fast or eat several chewing gum or candy a day (because you eat a lot of air in addition to food).

- Sensitivity or allergy to lactose.

- Perform intense physical activities after the main snacks (such as breakfast or lunch).

- Ingest a lot of salt and spicy (increases the gas in the intestine).

- Do not hydrate properly (water improves intestinal transit).

On the other hand, there are foods that will become your best allies to avoid flatulence and improve your digestion. One of them is the pineapple with its digestive enzymes. Another is yogurt fermented with probiotics to reduce swelling. Also, after eating do not forget to take some infusions such as tea, chamomile or anise.

Remember that if the flatulence continues, they are very frequent and are accompanied by stomach pain, you should consult a specialist. Taking care of your health is the most important thing.
