Care: 7 foods that damage your stomach and promote heartburn

Heartburn, burning or reflux are evils that affect a large number of people in the world on a daily basis. Statistics even speak of 1 in 3 people suffering from occasional heartburn, while 18 to 28% suffer from reflux or other disorders.


The signs of acidity are not as obvious as we might believe: the most common is the burning in the chest that often extends to the throat, the feeling that food returns from the stomach to the mouth and the intensification of symptoms when lying down .

These symptoms do not occur by chance. The acidity responds to a great extent to our diet. In that sense, it is important to know which foods cause acidity.

1. High fat foods
Fats, especially trans fats and saturated fats, are bad for our stomach health, in almost every sense. Not only do they inflame us, they also favor acidity and reflux, among other effects. Bad news for lovers of processed foods!

2. The fried foods
Please no! Unfortunately, fried foods are bad for our heartburn. In general, these foods are usually the most associated with heartburn and esophageal reflux. I'm sorry, fries, it was nice while it lasted.

3. Carbonated soft drinks
The carbonated drink is one of the main causes of gastric reflux worldwide. The fun bubbles inside move in our stomachs and increase the pressure. And worse: as they tend to be acidic drinks, they also favor acidity.

4. Certain dairy products
As we noted earlier, high-fat foods are bad for our stomachs. In addition, dairy products contain lactose, which breaks down in our intestines with much difficulty.

5. Alcohol
While not all alcoholic drinks are acidic, many of them relax the lower part of the esophagus, where it joins with the stomach, which promotes reflux and acidity. To make matters worse, many people mix alcohol with carbonated drinks.

6. Too much caffeine
This is well known to everyone: caffeine is one of the most common causes of reflux and heartburn, especially in coffee or carbonated beverages. But this does not mean that you can not drink coffee in the morning or in the afternoon. Just avoid going to coffee or products with caffeine 24 hours a day.

7. Foods without fats
I know, I know! Foods with fat are not good, but foods without any fat either, especially because, in the absence, the producers often add many preservatives or harmful substances to food.

As we usually point out, the key is in the balance: not much fat, or absence of fats. Find the middle point! Although a diet with a lot of fat is not healthy, it is not good for your health to avoid them altogether.
